Strawberry Pretzel Salad

Bottom Layer

1 1/2 cup crushed pretzels

1/4 cup of sugar

1 1/2 sticks melted butter


Mix together and cover bottom of oven proof dish. Bake for 10 minutes on 350 degrees. Cool completely.


Middle Layer

Blend:

1 8oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup sugar

1 8oz cool whip, thawed


Spread over cooled pretzel crust.


Top Layer

1 Large strawberry Jello (6 oz)

2 cups hot water

1 16oz frozen strawberries, thawed and mashed with fingers or fork


Mix together. Put in fridge to thicken (1 hour) then pour over cool whip mixture. Refrigerate overnight.


When Natalie was 3 years old, we began making this dish. It was her favorite, and we always made two - one for company and a smaller one for Natalie. We made it early Wednesday morning before Thanksgiving. There is continued debate in our family on whether or not this is a SIDE or a DESSERT.
