Bopa's Sweet Tea

Updated: Aug 2, 2020

Almost every time I go to the refrigerator to get me a glass of tea, I find my tea pitcher empty and one or two empty glasses sitting on the counter where one or more of my granddaughters left them after consuming all of my tea.

In what might be a failed attempt to preclude this situation from happening again, I am going to provide my very own recipe.

First, you need a three-quart pitcher filled slightly more than half full of water.

Next, add one heaping cup of sugar to the water and stir thoroughly.

Next, you need a quart-sized Mason or Ball jar filled about two-thirds full of cold water.

Add two family-size tea bags to the Mason jar of water, preferably Lipton’s, but Tetley will do.  (The reason I like Lipton’s best is that the bag does not produce as much tea sediment as other bags do.)

Place the Mason jar in the microwave and set the time for at least six minutes.  Heat until the water begins to boil.  Turn the M/W off and let the tea sit for a few minutes. Remove the Mason jar, lift out the teabags and discard them and pour the remainder in the pitcher.

This recipe gives you approximately one-half gallon of E-N-E-R-G-Y.

2 Quart pitcher (8 cups)

6-8 tea bags

2 cups boiling water

Add tea bags to boiling water. Remove from heat and cover. Steep for 30-45 minutes.

Pour sugar and cold water into pitcher and stir.

Add steeped tea, stir and refrigerate immediately.

Add steeped tea, stir and refrigerate immediately. several hours before serving, preferably the night before.
